The LAS Difference

    Initial Consultation

We believe that the first step towards test prep or test remediation is to listen and understand each medical student’s unique needs and opportunities for growth. LAS Medical Education Test Prep and Test Remediation services begin with an initial consultation, which consists of an initial intake meeting (in-person or via videoconference), a review of LAS forms and the student’s private documentation (reports, transcripts, standardized testing reports, etc.). Through our initial consultation, we receive a true assessment of where students are at in their medical education journey.  Our initial consultation gives our intake coordinators a deeper understanding of the testing sections that require the most improvement and attention. From there, we’re able to design a customized test prep or test remediation strategy that highlights those specific areas and the steps that will need to be taken to improve the overall test score.

    Pre-Testing

Following an initial consultation, students will take a pre-test of their specified exam to determine strengths, weaknesses, and where there are opportunities for improvement. This allows us to incorporate error analyses and progress tracking, which is the foundation of LAS’ test prep methodology.

    Test Prep

At this point, medical students seeking test prep and test remediation support will decide whether they’d like to participate in a Hybrid Workshop, Crash Course, or have One-to-One Meetings with a Medical Coach. All clients will receive an individualized test prep or test remediation curriculum that reflects each individual’s strengths while identifying key areas for targeted content review. All test prep services are available year-round, in-person or virtually, and sync up with national test dates.

FAQs

LAS Test Prep Plans and Test Remediation Plans incorporate the same components for learning and achieving, including pretesting, error analysis, and post-testing.

Test preparation is often associated with a first-time test-taker, whereas test remediation usually involves multiple attempts and is often the result of a failed exam. However, sometimes, remediation is used to “better” an exam score.

Either way, test preparation and test remediation involve strategies or modifications to deepen knowledge and enhance test-taking skills and achievement outcomes. In some cases, students simply need more practice and more time to improve their test scores.

LAS Coaches use pretesting and error analysis to identify or clarify student strengths and relative weaknesses, regardless of whether they coach a first-time test-taker or someone with repeated exam attempts.

Test prep costs will vary depending on a few factors, including the timeline and test prep goals. Give us a call to discuss your questions, budget, and rates.

Individual test prep goals and expectations often vary, so too do student practice commitments. Yet, students who work with LAS Test Prep Coaches typically demonstrate increases in their test scores, and often by several standard deviations.

Accounting for individual differences, such as test prep goals, expectations, and practice commitments, LAS Test Prep plans are typically 10-12 weeks. All plans include daily recall practice, weekly coaching, and self-assessments for progress tracking. Within this framework, LAS students achieve measurable score increases by the end of the first 2 weeks of test prep. LAS metrics also show that first-time test takers will require approximately 10-12 weeks for test preparation and during that time, will demonstrate increases of two to five standard deviations in their test scores.
