Loren Deutsch, LCSW, MEd, MA
Founder, Executive Director
Loren Deutsch is a professional educational therapist and licensed clinical social worker who works at the border of two disciplines: medical education and clinical social work. Loren is a university lecturer, curriculum developer, national presenter, and education consultant. She has maintained a clinical practice since 1995, when she developed the Academic Skills Assessment Program (ASAP), at The University of Chicago.
While working at The University of Chicago in the ’90s, Loren was responding to an increased demand for faculty training and integrated academic support associated with medical students and residents experiencing academic difficulty. At that time, she developed a coaching model based on differentiated instruction and principles of clinical social work. This early model evolved into the LAS Learning Modules and Test Preparation Curriculum, and in 2010 Loren founded Loren Academic Services, Inc. (LAS), an educational services company specializing in Coaching, Curriculum Development, and Consulting services.
The LAS Learning Modules and Test Preparation Curriculum are interconnected components with defined learning objectives, measurable goals, self-reflective practices, and progress tracking. Each component incorporates differentiated instruction, principles of clinical social work, and research-based strategies and techniques. All LAS Coaches™ are trained in the LAS Learning Modules and Test Prep Curriculum and collaborate with Loren to offer coaching, consulting, and curriculum design services at LAS.
Loren is committed to upholding diversity, inclusion, and representation, eliminating barriers to academic and career success, and removing the culture of silence and stigma associated with learning and psychological difficulties so that all individuals learn, achieve, and succeed in school and work, with equitable access to healthcare.
Loren is a mother of four adult children whom she loves dearly and replenishes in the mountains: hiking, skiing, and mountain biking.
